To celebrate September’s Hunger Awareness Month, Walmart handed over a check in the amount of $75,000 to the Catholic Charities of Central Colorado. It will be used to buy a refrigerated truck to pick up food donations for the Marian House Soup Kitchen. Catholic Charities says the Kitchen served more than 216,000 meals last year at its Colorado Springs facility. In 2012, another truck was purchased using money from a previous Walmart donation.

Catholic Charities CEO, Andy Barton is excited about the money, thanks to Walmart and the ability to continue the good work at the Marian House Soup Kitchen for the community, "It will also expand our rural outreach to the communities we serve to make sure that those who are hungry in the plains and in the mountains continue to get food boxes from here in Colorado Springs.
